Holtz Lifts Venators to 6-5 Triumph
|
The rain did not keep Venetian and Madrid from finishing their game.
The Venetian Venators defeated the Madrid Matadors, 6-5. Catcher Verner Holtz deserved a large share of the credit. Holtz went 3-3 with a home run, 2 singles, and 2 walks. He scored 2 runs and drove in 2 for the Venators. Yegor Gonchar got the win, improving to 1-0. He worked 8 innings, giving up 4 runs on 7 hits, while striking out 4 and walking 6.
The Venators got a big at-bat from third baseman Barthelemy Guicciardini. For the game, Guicciardini was 1 for 5 with a home run, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once. In the top of the third, with a runner on 1st, he stroked a 2-run home run. His 1st home run of the season gave Venetian a 4-2 lead.
"We put a lot of pressure on ourselves," Guicciardini told a Venetian Herald reporter. "Sometimes we just need to relax."
Madrid is 2-1 after the defeat.
