Mavericks Get Clonked by Cavaliers, 4-3
|
The inspired effort of Phoenix right fielder Julian Echevarria was not enough to prevent a loss, 4-3, to the Columbus Cavaliers. Echevarria went 2 for 2 with a home run and a walk. Josh Upton, who went 5.2 innings, was the winning pitcher. He was charged with 2 runs on 6 hits, while walking 3 and striking out 3. His record now stands at 4-0. Jose Pulido recorded the save for Columbus, his 7th of the season.
It could have been a different outcome for Columbus, had it not been for Victor Diaz, the 25-year old left fielder . Diaz contributed a run-scoring sacrifice fly in the top of the third inning to put Columbus up, 4-1.
"Sometimes, you can be too aggressive," said Phoenix manager Lookie Wookie. "You need to let the game come to you."
The Mavericks, now 9-13, have lost 6 in a row.
