Navigators Curb Crusaders, 4-1
|
The NOVA Navigators picked up a win at Navigator Stadium, knocking off the Columbia Crusaders, 4-1. Starting pitcher Brandon Pettway played a key role in the triumph. Pettway went 7.2 innings to notch the win. He scattered 9 hits, walked 1, and struck out 11. His record improves to 2-1. The Crusaders drop to 8-8 and continue their mediocre start to the 2068 season.
The Crusaders had been locked in a 1-1 tie with the Navigators going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 31-year old center fielder Adrian Tinoco came to the plate. Tinoco hit a run-scoring double on a first pitch slider from Columbia hurler Victor Antonio. It was Tinoco's 6th double of the year.
In comments to the NOVA Gazette, Pettway admitted he's been told to improve his work habits. "But," he said, "I know when to take it to another gear."
